rest day (on open-heart default mode)
A some-what what-ever birth-day-week-ends with one full bona fide sleepless night opened wide high amongst the soaking greened trees followed by one deep-yet-still-not-nearly-recovered slumber. Luster-less vibes aside, still at least the celebratory eve itself was full of beauty and grace –the deepest of sustenance and gratitude in the form of family friends foods and fires. Let go. Thank you universe for these ever gifts.
Here's to highlighting habitual internalization and softening amongst the rigidity. Default to theme open-ing. Knowing your worth.
TO THE NINES. (easy kids, still technically in the '20-somethings'...)
Then welcome an unofficial-start-of-summer memorial Mon-day (the anniversary of the one on which I was born) with a run up around and down a mountain before an insanely timely Parvati goddess-inspired yoga session. Hello home again on my tattered mat. Cosmic-ology at work. Gentle nourishing mother celestial being existing to connect all beings to a means for spiritual release. Word. Prompted by superfree confirmations / network extensions. Ace.
Lastly a last-of-May Tues-day alarm fail / executive decision thanks to the tech gods. SO, no yoga? Default to rest day. Just go with the flow. Flow-through. Over and over. Same same. (Just leave chaturanga alone, for now. Your trapezoids thank you, as do your energy blockages, amongst all other things.)
Cue bonus mine/mind time to solidify the steps with said switch-up –
Often thought of as a 'grain' due to its cooking/eating applications, quinoa is in fact just tons of little seeds. Those baby blonde curls you may see peeking out of each kernel? That's actually the germ of the seed separating, a sign that they are primed to be planted in your belly and fully absorbed and even embodied after that. Magic. Hence the soaking (see goatmeal post for a bit more on this expansive practice), which promotes this soft-opening. SOFT OPENING. (theme-ing, anyone?). And as a 'complete protein' (aka contains all 'essential' aka not-made-by-your-body-thus-needed-from-diet amino acids aka protein building blocks), what better a way to start a default-to-rest-and-recovery-day and bring full-circle my month of May?
How stupidly sweet, and symbiotic. And superfree™, obviously.
FEEL YOUR BODY / BE EMBODIED.
Also, ginger everything.
GINGER VANILLA TRI-COLOR QUINOA PORRIDGE //
(yields ~ 2-3 servings)
1 c tricolor quinoa, soaked in water
1/2 c unsweetened almond milk
2 T currants
2 T goji berries
1 small banana, chopped
3/4 c frozen berries (I used blue and black)
1/2 t ginger powder
1/2 t vanilla extract
TOPPINGS : sunflower seed butter (or almond or cashew or whatever) + raw walnuts (or sliced almonds or whatever) + cinnamon + raw maca powder + fresh strawberries (and/or pear or whatever)
/ SOAK uncooked quinoa in water overnight (can leave like this in fridge for a week or two even) in a covered jar
/ DUMP soaked quinoa seeds into a nice ceramic or heavy-bottomed saucepan
/ ADD almond milk plus 1/2 c water (maybe use what is already boiled from making green tea – genius, I know)
/ TURN on med-low flame
/ ADD all other ingredients and turn flame to low
/ STIR porridge frequently with a stiff spatula, this way it will stay evenly distributed AND it won't stick to the bottom AND you won't scratch your pan !!
/ PRACTICE mindful awareness : this takes slightly longer than rolled oats, hence the rest-day-reference. 25 minutes or so.
